the Story…
This is a picture I call ‘the press conference’. It’s where I sat and sang through the songs on this album. For three days in August 2016, Ben Franz, Isaac Barter, and I performed live together, capturing on an MCI 2 inch 24 track tape machine the songs that would become this collection on the ‘Hard Rhyme’ LP. After each take we’d go into the control room with Jamie Trevaskis who engineered this album (in more ways than one). We’d all close our eyes and see if time disappeared. Anytime it didn’t hit right, we rewound the tape and went again, recording over what we’d done, only keeping what sat right in the soul.
That’s the heart of this record. A moment captured, real, honest, raw.
On the third day, after we’d recorded what we’d set out to do as a three piece ensemble, all of us went upstairs to unwind and have a bite to eat. Jamie turned to me and said “Hey I’ve got this other tape machine, an 8 track, it’s a bit of a cult lo-fi beast, maybe I could set it up and you could lay down some solo tracks after dinner?”. So in the darkness of the evening, I sat back down at the press conference, this time patched into a Tascam 388. Jamie hit record, and I played through five more songs, one take each, no edits.
This recording became ‘Vacilando’ the companion EP to hard rhyme, exclusively available on the second vinyl in the gatefold deluxe edition release.

The digital only release of ‘Hard Rhyme’ is currently set to ‘preorder only’. Download codes for this option will be emailed out once the vinyl preorder amount hits parity with the cost of manufacture, a roughly estimated 150 copies sold.
